Movistar publishes its prices for LG Optimus 7

Although yesterday when LG introduced its first smartphone operated Windows Phone 7, the LG Optimus 7, Movistar has already published various prices to take the Smartphone to the attendant.

The LG Optimus 7 will be available from November first in the company from 0 € hiring voice flat rate € 59.90 fee in addition to the mandatory Fatos 15 € per month.

On the other hand, Movistar will offer two different data rates, one 10 and another 15 euros.

Google Phone may be a reality by early 2010

There have been enough rumours, and an equal number of ‘NO’ responses by Google. But somehow the keen interest by Google in the mobile phone industry (more than half of Google’s web products are available for handsets – case in point: the Android) makes me ask: what’s next? Somehow, all roads (or more roads) are leading up to a Google Phone. All the work Google has put into the Android OS with the Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Eris, and other Android phones appear to have just been a warm-up for the Google Phone. Rumour has it that the Google Phone will only be branded by Google, and the handset itself may be manufactured by another phone manufacturer. HTC is the closest phone manufacturer to Google, with too much trust and effort already put into Google’s Android OS. But, TechCrunch claims that they have a “well-sourced rumour” that the Google Phone is under development by a Korean phone manufacturer. Now, this Korean phone manufacturer could be Samsung or LG. With Samsung being a major parts supplier to Apple, it might face some sort of conflict of interest if a partnership is in place with Google. So, if the Google Phone is being built in Korea, it has to be built by LG. The rumours claim that the Google Phone could be officially released as early as January 2010. If Google really comes up with a handset by then, and with the Android application store also having (or should have at least) all the goodies and mobile apps for Android, the iPhone might actually be a run for their money. We will surely have our eyes and ears glued to cyberspace (or to anyone willing to part with more information) for confirmation from Google regarding its own brand phone. Till then, keep saving for the big one

Nokia Ditches Symbian, Maemo leads [N-Series]

And these days we see a choice between Symbian and Maemo on most N-series. Fortunately, things are starting to become a bit clearer, Maemo’s marketing team meet-up in London last night, declared future for Maemo. Nokia will drop Symbian S60 from all of its flagship N-series consumer devices in favor of Maemo. Apparently, Nokia has been pleasantly surprised by the enthusiastic response to the N900 OS even though the enthusiast package is not quite ready for mass-market appeal. However, the transition won’t be instantaneous as anyone with an N900 (and a clear mind) can attest — the OS, services, and apps just can’t compare to the mature S60 platform regardless of Maemo 5’s superior user experience. The transition will be a gradual one with further Symbian-based N-Series handsets already in development. Whilst the N900 was acknowledged to be a ‘bridge’ device firmly aimed at the developer and enthusiast community, subsequent devices will target the mass-market and Maemo-based devices will grow to fill all of Nokia’s flagship range by 2012. There are no current plans for Maemo devices in the new video-focused X-Series range or popular E-Series enterprise range, but Nokia had been surprised by the enthusiasm with which the N900 and the latest incarnation of Maemo have been received so further expansion isn’t out of the question. ‘Maemo Select’, the current community-portal for Maemo applications, will initially run alongside Nokia’s Ovi store, which is due to launch for the N900 via a software update next month. However, in the longer term it too will be retired leaving only the Ovi Store as the official Nokia source for free and paid applications promoted on Symbian and Maemo devices. As such, we’ll continue to see N-Series handsets already in development pop with S60 on board alongside mass-market Maemo devices as the platform matures to the point that Nokia can make the full switch by 2012. Looking at the current scenario, I won’t be surprised if Nokia ends up adding Android to its cart.

New Video Converter for old formats

Once again, we have been able to find a new video converters and this time it is the “iConvert Video Converter” which old formats such as eg Converting VHS tapes into digital formats. In addition, the new iConvert Video Converter does not even need a computer, but a DVD player, camcorder or similar device.

In iConvert this converter is an SD or SDHC memory card inserted, and then simply plays back the old format and the converter converts the files into a digital format. Upon completion, the data from the memory card to a computer or another device, such as eg a hard disk will be transferred. The price is estimated at U.S. $ 99.95 (about 69.80 €), but the site does not currently appear to be attainable.
